Autumn & Winter in NCL Dwell Student Living

Updated: Feb 15, 2020

It has been 4 months since I have moved into Newcastle Dwell Student Living, Garth Heads and I do love it here! It is literally 5mins to the Quay(one of the main attractions in Newcastle!), and how often can you tell someone you stayed by the Quay?

ree

Let's begin with the prices, this student accommodation is one of the most affordable going at an average price of £80/week for a maximum of 50 weeks stay. The lowest is £69/week for the most basic room and over 50weeks. The website will show an example of the flat illustration of the different types of flats(3-7 bed flat). The prices are different for the 3 different types of rooms and duration of stay, however, these prices included utility bills. So meaning, you do not have to worry about bills and you will always have hot shower and heater during the colder season(please be energy conservative!). Check their websites for further details, pictures, and prices.

Updates

Always check your emails, as the accommodation team will send emails to you regarding your parcel, events, quizzes, updates about the accommodation and even for services where they will inform you in advance that they will be entering your Flat for any maintenances. And there is a weekly fire drill at 11am on a Tuesday and well-explained emergency route, in case of a real fire.

There are get together er sessions for newcomers and other events eg. Halloween, Christmas, Chinese New Year(CNY), Valentine's Day. It is just so lively here and a lot of opportunities to mingle around to meet new faces. You can also use the 'dwell student living' app to stay updated with what’s happening in the accommodation.

My experience

I am staying on the 2nd floor, Room B in a 7 bed Flat and my view was the Quayside bridge(not the full view, just the top). I love waking up to watch the sunrise, trust me you will love it.

The room is very spacious and I have loads of clothes and stuff(beauty, accessories etc!!). My heater works well, and I have no issue with the room or the flat. The room, flat and accommodation facilities are all well maintained, and they conduct a consistent maintenance check for every flat.

Is it noisy?

Till today, I do not have trouble sleeping at night. There are house parties here and there, mainly during the first and last weeks of the semester or term but the noise level is controlled. So, I can say it is pretty peaceful.

Is it safe?

Yes, I usually walk on my own and I have been out till late numerous times. We are surrounded by a lot of other student accommodations, so it is a safe area for students.

Transport? Grocery stores? What’s around the accommodation?

The Manors train station is about 5mins away and the bus stops literally a minute away from Manors train station. Few cafes, restaurants, and Saintbury scattered around that area too.

The Quayside side is about a 5 minutes walk and there are a lot of restaurants, great cafes such as CatPawCino(cat cafe) and Great British Cupcakery(very instagrammable!!), and franchises such as Starbucks, Greggs and etc stretch across the Quayside. Tesco Express is at the Quay but right around the corner of Dwell Accommodation, there is a small mart: Pricewatch is just a minute away. There is a Sunday Market stretch along the Quayside from 10 am onwards, selling unique things, clothes, sweets, desserts(gluten-free, etc), and food booths. It is extremely convenient and a great place to be in!

This accommodation is pretty close to the town, about a 10-15 minutes walk. You can get pretty much everything there, a great shopping place as well(I did a lot of shopping!). I enjoyed my walk towards town especially passing by sandwiches bakery and cafes. On some days, I will hop on the bus near Manors station towards the town and Fenham. Always check the bus times online, eg. Stagecoach or Google maps. I do my groceries in town: Tesco, Marks&Spencer, Grainger Market, Heron Foods and Fenham for halal meat once every few weeks.

The closest clinic you can reach is Seville Medical Group, about a 10 minutes walk. For a good night out, there are literally good clubs(Soho, Bijoux, House of Smith, Madame Koo) and bars just 10 minutes away from this accommodation too.

My first impression of the accommodation was overwhelming since I was not able to view the accommodation before arriving in the UK, and this was above my expectations. Another great thing is that the accommodation team allowed me to stay with my friends and they have successfully arranged that for me. I really love it here and I couldn’t express how glad I am being here especially as an international student.

Any flat issues?

This only happened once that we faced a few problems in our flat such as the kitchen sink clogged up, our heaters were not working and toilet lights fused. All of this happened a day after another, so can you imagine we had to tell the staff about the different problems we faced. It seems like we are messing with their patience at the time but it did happen and we felt so bad dragging them to it. The amazing part is that the accommodation team did not delay and attend to us right away. What touched my heart the most was when they came up to our place offering additional help and did multiple check-ups. The accommodation will not hesitate to aid the situation, hence they were the sweetest people ever.

An emergency contact number is given where you can reach after office hours.

So, why choose dwell accommodations?

If you love any of this: affordable stay, friendly accommodation team, enjoy walks, gym, jogging around the quay, cafes, peaceful and safe environment, no utility bills, hot shower all year long and a working heater to keep warm during the winter...

This place is ideal for you!

Lastly, I have met the amazing and most friendly group of staff ever! I love greeting them whenever I see them in their cute main office or anywhere else in the accommodation.
